GUIDED BY VOICES TO HEADLINE ACM@UCO’S METRO MUSIC FEST
The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO) recently secured Guided By Voices, iconic indie rock band, as the headlining act at the eighth annual ACM@UCO Metro Music Fest Saturday, April 8.
Guided By Voices will perform at The Criterion concert venue located in Bricktown at 500 E. Sheridan at 10:30 PM.
This performance is the main event at the ACM@UCO Metro Music Fest, the event in which more than 60 student bands take over Oklahoma City’s Bricktown district for an afternoon and evening of free music entertainment open to all.
Guided By Voices is an American indie rock band, which formed in Dayton, Ohio in the mid 80’s. Best known for its prolific output, over the years the band gained notoriety for its seemingly endless stream of releases. Robert Pollard, chief songwriter and creative force behind Guided By Voices is scheduled to release his 100th album August by Cake on April 7, which will guide the band’s performance on the eighth.
Other notable Metro Music Fest national acts include Domino Records signed alternative rock duo Night Moves, Fort Collins-based folk/pop quartet SHEL and Tulsa pop band Sports. Additionally, popular dance party promoter Subsonix, will present an impressive lineup at the ACM@UCO Performance Lab, which will include Dallas-based producer MUST DIE! headlining the bill. The ACM@UCO Performance Lab is located at 329 E. Sheridan Ave. in Bricktown.
Additionally, the festival will highlight ACM@UCO student acts that have become regional headliners in their own rights. Acts include Space4Lease, Cutter Elliott, Grant Adams, The Lunar Laugh, Lincka, and Original Flow & The Fervent Route. A complete lineup of all artists, including additional national acts, performing at the festival with corresponding stages/performance times will be released at a date closer to the event.
“This year’s Metro Music Fest is bringing in our largest group of national acts to date. Once again we are highlighting a diverse group of talent representing an array of musical genres,” said Scott Booker, CEO and executive director of the ACM@UCO.
“Guided By Voices hasn’t played in Oklahoma City in nearly twenty years! We are thrilled that our festival is able to bring them back to Bricktown as our headlining act in the Criterion. Also, don’t miss folk/pop band SHEL – earlier in the academic year we hosted a master class with them in our songwriting room and they’re incredible!”
New to the festival this year will be a kid-friendly section of the festival from noon to 4 PM in the parking lot just south of the ACM@UCO on Oklahoma Ave. The kid’s fest will feature food trucks, kid-friendly music entertainment, arts and crafts and more.
