UCO BEGINS ITS 2014-15 FACULTY ARTIST CONCERT SERIES WITH PIANO AND WIND ENSEMBLE PERFORMANCE
The University of Central Oklahoma School of Music kicks off the 2014-15 Faculty Artists Concert Series with pianist Chindarat Charoenwongse-Shaw, D.M.A., and the Zephyr Winds ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 2 at the UCO Jazz Lab, 100 E. Fifth Street in Edmond
The Faculty Artist Concert Series, now in its sixth year, is a yearlong performance series that highlights the talents of Central music faculty members. All performances take place on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. at the Jazz Lab with proceeds supporting scholarships and the UCO School of Music.
A Fulbright scholar and Central faculty member since 2000, Charoenwongse-Shaw has performed throughout the U.S. and internationally with recent concerts in New York and Canada.
The Zephyr Winds ensembles consists of oboist Kadee Bramlett, flutist Emily Butterfield, D.M.A., clarinetist Dawn Marie Lindblade, D.M.A., horn player Peggy Moran, D.M., and bassoonist Lori Wooden, D.M.A.
This faculty artist concert will consist of pieces written for piano and a variation of wind ensemble. The concert will include composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Camille Saint-Saëns, among others.
“The pairing of piano with wind instruments was historically such a revolutionary milestone in ensemble music,” explained Charoenwongse-Shaw.
“After Mozart championed this new genre in music, other composers quickly followed suit, with compositional characteristics in harmony permeating the genre. This faculty artist concert will communicate and demonstrate the evolution of this genre and highlight the beautiful harmonies and rich texture of sound,” Charoenwongse-Shaw continued.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling the UCO School of Music at 405-974-5004. Admission is free for Central students, faculty and staff with a Central I.D.
“My colleagues and I are excited to begin the Faculty Artists Concert Series,” said Charoenwongse-Shaw.
“The Faculty Artist Concert Series provides a truly unique opportunity for our students to watch faculty perform the techniques we teach. It also provides the community with regular access to concerts performed by seasoned professionals, my colleagues, while benefitting School of Music scholarships.”
